I would like to add a snail or two to my fish tank. I finally got everything stable after a good month of work but now I have algae. I know I can buy some chemicals to kill it but I would rather deal with it in a more "natural" way. I have two medium clown loaches in this tank and I know they'll eat freshwater clams, will they eat any snails I put in there ??
Any suggestions would be great.
There is also an angel and a eclipse catfish in this tank. Those two are full grown.

Yes, without a doubt.

If you add snails to a tank that houses clown loaches, you will most likely end up with empty snail shells. Even the bigger snails will probably be constantly picked at until the clown loaches "win".

I was just looking at you tank specs. If you only have an algae problem in the one 47g tank, could you swap the two clown loaches in that tank for a few fish form your other 47g tank? I see that one already houses 1 clown loach. Once the snails have the algae cleaned up move your clown loaches back in and they will clean up the snails for you.

Or you could just get an algae brush and start doing some manual cleaning yourself. :p:

yea, thanks for the help. Thats what I thought. I could look into moving some fish around but doubt it will happen since everyone seems to be pretty happy.
You think an Otto or two would clean up some of my algae ?

Otos clean up most types of algae. I know for sure that they ignore hair algae. If you have typical brown algae or green algae on your glass, otos will do a good job. However, you should get ATLEAST 3 for them to be happy.

kk, I might go pick up 3. Gonna call my LFS and see if they have some in stock. My one tank is going to end up being a bottom feeder tanks (minuse the angelfish) :-P
