Well it was time to change the media and to do monthly maintenance for my magnum 350 for my 75G today. Everything was going fine and I cleaned all the hoses and spraybar and all of the other goodies. I put the top back onto the canister and opened the quick disconnects and proceeded to turn it on. Immediately after the filter started charcoal particles went whirring around my tank! It seems that the media holder top wasn't completely sealed and the water pressure had pushed it off! grrrr!!! :mad2: So I had to take the entire filter from the biowheels to the canister apart and clean out the hoses and biowheel housing. Then I had to dissect the canister itself and empty all the excess charcoal pieces from inside!! Technically this isn't about the 350 I suppose.. its more stupidity on my part... but I still think they should make a more secure media-holder top... at least latch it down!

Carbon isn't needed in your filter, unless your removing medicine or tannins from driftwood,ect......

I would leave the carbon out if I was you.

Skip the carbon if you are maintaing a tank correctly....keep it if you like spending $$'s for nothing...unless for medicine removal. Replace with your favorite bio media.
