Well, I made a mistake and got home 2 Golden Algae eaters (or CAEs). Mistake, coz I hear they get aggressive toward other fish when older. I plan to return them to the LFS but can do that only on Tuesday earliest.
I had also bot 17 cardinal tetras. I have quarantined both fish in the same tank, with artificial plants, no light and a filter with media from my established 55g.

Its been 24 hrs now since I brought them home, but the CAEs dont have algae to eat in the QT. I tried feeding them sinking wafers, but didnt see them eat it. One of them is relatively still, and will dart if provoked.

Do you see any trouble having the cardinals in with the CAEs in the QT? in terms of diseases etc?

I also tried feeding the cardinals some flakes, but they ate sporadically... not sure if all of them ate.

Any tips, comments would help.

Thanks! :girl:

I find that the Chinese algae eater can be even more tempermental, give the fish a few days before feeding. They are stressed and need some time to accimatize to the new tanks. personally i would wait and see what kind of temperment the golden algae has. Can always get seperate them later.

i have 2 small golden alge eaters not aggresive at all and my neigbor has a couple to that are non aggressive and his are about 4 to 6 inches

they get up to a foot long and are very territorial and agressive, and turn more to a carniverous diet as they get older.

by a cory. And golden guys dont like algea much actully.

Cories don't eat alage though. If you want some small algae eaters then look at otto's or SAE's. Both do well in groups.

yup those goldies get to be about 12" in overall length. too bad they are tank busters as they are really cute when they are small. I might plan on getting one for my 240g tank next year maybe, if i dont make it a Malawi tank. Still on the fence with stocking, but lucky for me I have a year to plan.
