I need to clean out an old reef tank for freshwater use and was wondering if there is any product i can use other than just water to clean it out?

yea a sponge, id probably use salts

plain white vinegar is good for removing mineral deposits.
Razor blades are great for removing the deposits. Then remove any remaining film with the vinegar.
