I am in the process of starting a 75 gallon Malawi tank.
First question...
#1 I would like to have yellow labs. Do they go well with Blue Peacocks??
#2 For filtration is an Aquaclear 110 good??
#3 What is a good substrate? Eco-Complete African Cichlid Substrate?
Is this good?
Thanks in advance!

to answer your 1st question yes yellow labs should get along fine with peacocks (they do at my house anyway). your second question actually i am a huge believer in over filtration so i would suggest another AC 110 or possibly an AC 70 to go along with your existing filter. and as for your 3rd question i have no idea i just used play sand for my substrate.

Thanks for the help. I have was told that the 110 would be okay but two 70's would be great.

As for the eco complete it says that it will buffer the h2o so that I will not have to add anything to get the ph higher.

Has anyone used this stuff?

Yep that substrate will be perfect :)

And its best to find out the scientific name of the 'blue peacocks' because i've seen fish such as S. fryeri labelled as peacocks before, and they most definately are not! ;)

Thanks. I will find out the name. That substrate comes in a gravel type and a sand type. Any suggestions? (Esp. for the Labidochromis caeruleus
and the Aulonocara nyassae? is this the blue peacock i am looking for????) Would they be fine with the sand? I think it looks nice! :thm:

Yes they will much prefer the sand over the gravel, just make sure to rinse it first! :)

Sand really brings out the natural behaviour of the cichlids, especially peacocks who use a type of sensory pore to locate food in the sand as they hover above it. :D

Will the eco- complete sand raise the PH to a good level for the Africans ??

7.8-8.2? What is the PH for anyones african tank??? Lake Malawi

Yep it will buffer your pH! Maybe not instantly, but within a week or two.
