Very Nice tanks. Took very very long to load, but really nice tanks.

nice tanks - but you may want to better optimize your pics for downloading - they are pretty large and take a while - and I have a DSL line

Well, I was gonna say, "Are those the fishies favourite movies?" but I see a couple others jumped on the movies as well.....

*sigh* Gorgeous tanks!!! And what an incredible picture of your blue gourami.

BTW, at least for me (cable) the pics did not take any time at all to load.

Thanks :-)

I took about 150 pictures to get those pics... Heh....

As for the movies I should clarify...

That isnt "Dracula" exactly.. That is actually "Mel Brooks - Dracula, Dead and loving it"

So I dunno which movie is my favorite, we have airplanes vs classic Mel Brooks humor.. tough choice!

What kind've lighting do you have on all of the tanks? Any fertilizers or CO2 injectors? They look great!

No CO2, and rarely any ferts, although I think I will be fertilizing more often.

YES!! Give us the break down on what you use (and do) to keep those tanks so beautiful. Filter, Lighting, any chemicals, etc.
PS What kind of camera did you use??

Ok.... Here goes.

22 Gallon tank
Lighting = 4 x Panasonic EFD Screw in Compact Flouescent bulbs (I reveiwed them here http://www.plantedtank.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=870)
Filtration = Aquaclear Mini (Yes, I said mini)
Substrate = 1" of River sand/fine gravel (about 2mm pieces) and 1" of larger sized river gravel (4-6mm pieces). Because the bottom substrate is so fine it compacts nicely. This prevents the roots of the plants from getting into this layer. As an added bonus any waste that accumulates in the tank is trapped between the two gravel layers where the roots are.
Water changes = 30-50% weekly, depending on water conditions

45 Gallon tank
Lighting = 2 x Hagen Power Glo 40 Watt Bulbs
Filtration = Aquaclear 500
Substrate = 2.5" of River gravel (4-6mm pieces).
Water changes = 30-50% weekly, depending on water conditions
Fertilizer = Hagen N-P-K and Hagen Iron Enriched every 2 weeks

135 Gallon tank
Lighting = 2 x Hagen Power Glo 40 Watt Bulbs and 3 x Sylvania 6500k 165watt VHO bulbs
Filtration = Fluval 404 Canister + Magnum 350 w/Biowheels
Substrate = 2" of River sand/fine gravel (about 2mm pieces) and 1" of larger sized river gravel (4-6mm pieces). Because the bottom substrate is so fine it compacts nicely. This prevents the roots of the plants from getting into this layer. As an added bonus any waste that accumulates in the tank is trapped between the two gravel layers where the roots are.
Water changes = 30-50% weekly, depending on water conditions
Fertilizer = Hagen N-P-K and Hagen Iron Enriched every 2 weeks

I salt the 22 Gallon and the 135 Gallon tank with every water change. I keep shrimp in both tanks and they really appreciate the salt. 1 tbsp per 5 gallons keeps most parasites off the loaches in teh 135 gallon, and the livebearers in the 22 gallon seem to be happier.

I use a Canaon Powershot A40 for the pictures

I'm pretty fond of the pleco too. His name is Elvis, and at 8.5" he dominates the tank.

I really like that slate "wall" you have in your 135 gallon tank. Did you buy that from a store or go out and quarry it yourself? :) I am interested in getting some for my 35 gallon tank (odviously not as much as you have), so if you could, please tell me how you got yours.

thanks!

GDominy, Can you determine the sex bewteen Gourami's I have 4 Gouramis (2 Blue, 2 Gold) and I can not tell which is which in the sex department.

Can you help me please, and explain it in 'blonde' terms. :D

for gouramis you can tell sex by the fins. Males have larger and "pointier" dorsal and tail fins whereas females have smaller and more rounded fins.

My slate was purchased from a local gravel yard at $0.24 per pund. The tank has about $34 (canadian) worth of slate in it. I cured it in the tank for about 2 weeks before adding any fish and it didnt touch the Ph. Just make sure any pieces you buy are not layered with iron or other minerals.

Thanks Gdominy, I know there is a store like that near my grandparents house so I will have to stop by :)

hmm 34 canadian is.... 20 US? minus the smaller tank = 10 bucks not bad

Yeah its a pretty affordable way of setting up a nice tank.

When you pick your slate, try to use pieces that arent too thick, but still have lots of girth. You want larger pieces that you can crack as well. Slate is easy to work with, you can break it using a hammer or a large rock. I bought fairly large pieces and broke them into smaller pices for stacking.
