Fish has large lump woth protruding scales

One of my mollie's has a lump sticking out behind it's fin. The scale's are protuding, but the fish can swim normally even though it dislikes using that fin. The lump is about the size of two pea.He was fine this morning. The lump is UNDER his scales. What is wrong??????
 
Sounds like a nasty internal infection--unlikely to be a tumor, since they typically don't grow that fast. Could also be an internal parasite cyst--I'd isolate the fish into a hospital tank and monitor.
