I started up my first planted tank a few days ago. Today, I noticed fuzzy looking 'stuff' growing on the underside of a driftwood branch. It's about the color of beard algae I've had before - purplish gray and growing in tufts - but very soft and wispy looking. It seems more like mold than algae. I'm afraid it may be my driftwood growing mold - but I soaked the driftwood for over a month in a sink to get it waterlogged and there was no sign of mold or decay. I'm growing java moss and java fern on the driftwood and would rather not get rid of it... The plants in the tank are doing well, some have grown noticablely, and there isn't any green algae yet.
Any idea what the algae/mold stuff is, and if there is anything I can do?
Thanks.
