Smaller Lake Tangynikan cichlids such as shelldwellers will work. There are some other smaller cichlids from the lake that are not shellies but will be suitable for a Tangynikan tank, such as N. lelupi, J. regani, N. brichardi (a little on the aggressive side), etc etc.

A convict should work out you could probably get away with two. A jewel cichlid should work too. You can look at the species profiles for cichlids on this site and just find one that stays about 6" or less.

I have julidochromis in my tank and they are really cool fish. Like Kribs said they are from Lake Tanganyika, I enjoy watching them alot, they are always moving around sometimes straight up or sideways over rocks in my tank, it almost looks as if they are slithering. I think they are really cool, I would look around maybe you can match them up with a shell dweller which in my opinion are very cool aswell.
