Hey everyone!
I have been in this hobby for about 7 months now. I set up my 55 gallon tank 3 months ago and the stand has been doing a great job holding the weight! However, since day 1, it makes cracking noises at night (and only night). This has also happened with my 25 gallon tank which I had from September-December.

Does wood always make these noises at night? Is it normal? Thanks!

Is the stand meant to be a fish tank stand?? If you are sure that is where the noise is coming from, I don't think thats normal. I would be very alarmed, especially if it was not sold as a fish tank stand. A 55g tank is at least 400-500 pounds with water, not including the gravel, decorations, etc.

Large temperature swing at night causing the wood to shrink maybe? I'd be very leary of the stand myself though. I mean anything holding that much weight and creaking when the weight is steady can't be too good. What's the stand made of? That is is it made of hardwoods, particle board, or common lumber?

do you have nocturnal fish that could be shifting gravel that occasionally clacks on the glass? - my corys do this occationally- i would have thought it was wood craking if i didn't have an iron tank stand.

My fish are in my sig. The only fishes I've ever had since the beginning with the 25 gallon are:
Neons
Guppies
Otos

and thats about it.

What kind of wood is it made out of? Some would with extreme temp. swings will shrink and then expand in warmer temps. I dought this is the problem. Just let us no.

Did I read correctly...you have had three differnt stands and three different tanks...and you experienced sounds from all? Did/do they all sit in the same spot?
