Yes, but the choc. chip star is one of the most voracious units you can put in a tank. I think they are even more "reef-devouring" than many non-reef safe fish. So if you are remotely planning any corals, ix-nay that choc. chip star. They are a very visible addition to a FO tank, but one of the last inhabitants you'd want in a reef. You'll see him a lot, and they take to devouring waste better than any scavanger I've ever kept... but they also show no mercy to corals. My good buddy Smitty wanted to "borrow" him a few years back to chomp down some MO rock, but to his chagrin he also whacked out a stony coral the first night.
The choc. chip is extremely hardy, and like I said - very visible. Great detrivores, but bad for your reef. ;) HTH!
There are some gorgeous Fromia starfish that are nicely reef compatable. I have 2 different fromia in my tank. One is bright orange-red with black dots ( Fromia milleporella (http://www.keellsaquariums.com/keellsaqua/jpg/mf/11.jpg) ) and the other is hot pink and school bus yellow with white 'tiles' (Fromia monilis (http://www.aquacon.com/images/fromia.jpg) ). The get along really well with my brittle star and are always out where I can see them. They frequently hang out on the glass and are always exploring my rocks.
Here is a great link about seastars (www.wetwebmedia.com/ seastars.htm), their compatability within a reef tank and with other organisims.

So where can someone purchase a star like the Fromia milleporella? All the websites I look in don't have anything like this.
Here is the one I found. This one looks exactly like mine.

Also, I got mine from Aquacon (the store, not online). It was the only one I saw, so I immediately bought it. You can give them a call, because I'm sure they have more of them at their main location. I think I paid $20.00 in the store, but their in store prices are a LOT (like double) higher than their on-line prices. http://www.aquacon.com
