I saw some kuhli loaches today. I thought they were really neat but didn't know anything about them.

Can I put them with 7 neons, 4 platies, 1 dwarf gourami? Also how many do you have to have. Alsooooooooo is there any special feeding requirements.

THANKS!

IMO... you can put the kuhili loaches w/ those fish that you listed.
One question though... how many gallon do you have? That will help for you to get better responses.

Mmmmm, if it were me... I would put in about 5 loaches in there since you havent have any bottom feeders in your current tank. I'm not sure what maximum you could add in loaches w/o pushing the stocking level.
They don't really have any special feeding requirement, they pretty much will scavange for anything. It'll be a great idea to feed them such as algae tabs, shrimp pellets, etc after lights out to make sure that they are getting enough to eat.
Thats my .02 cent :D

Definitely get a group of them. They LOVE to hang out together and they really love to have very small little caves to hide in. For instance, mine all pile into the space between a couple of rocks.

Did you find striped or brown ones? I have been wanting to find the striped ones for several years with no luck! I just have to be happy with the brown ones I have for now. . .

I have 5 in a 10g and you likely won't see them very often though the black ones are said to be more active.

I like my khuli loach. But, a word of caution, I bought quite a few and I had all but one die within a few days. I know a lot of people were having similar problems. I would keep an eye on the fish in the LFS to see how they are acting before buying them and defiantly quarantine them. Fun fish though!

I am planning on quarantining them first!!!

This is my plan:

4 khuli loaches
5 neon tetras(i decided to get 5 instead of 7 because of the loaches)
1 dwarf gourami
4 platies

I hope I'm not overstocking...i hope!!!

You could still have 7 neons, they are pretty small little guys! I have 6 kuhli loaches (4 striped, 2 black) in my 29 gallon tank with 10 rasbora espei, 1 male betta, 2 otos, snails and shrimp. I change 30% of my water weekly but it's hardly dirty.

As for feeding, I feed a variety of flake and frozen food (bloodworms, daphnia, mysis shrimp and brine shrimp) as well as shrimp pellets, bottom feeder tabs and algae wafers. They don't seem as into the fresh zucchini as my zebra loaches but they do eat an occasional snail.

Good luck with your tank, sounds like a nice set up!

I have the 2 black kuhlis and 2 striped. The black ones are far less shy. They all come out now, but I would still say the black ones are more fun to watch. If you can, I would get five black ones.

my LFS only has striped ones:( I also have a planted tank...I guess I COULD go with 7 neons but I want enough room to have a few platy babies :)
