Ok, so I woke up this morning and my salfin tang is covered in ick? How should i treat him? He is in a 75g tank. I do have some corals in there but not to many and abou 85lbs of live rock. I havent had an Ick outbreak in a long time . I can take the corals out if need be. I dont want my fish to die :(

can u take the tang out,and put it into a quarintien tank by its self , if so, you can get rid of the ick by raising the tem p very slowly to 91 and i mean slow ly, while you do that, you want to lower the salinity to 22 or1.016 and do this very slowly as well one point and degree a day.once you have reach those perameters, leave the tang like that fot at leat 2 weeks your tang can handle the low salinity and high temp if done slowly . now as far as you reef tank ;;;; ick need a host fishost to survive , so with now host the ick will die off usually in 2 to 3 weeks . as far as chems for ick its a hit or miss usualy food like formular one WITH GARLICK SEEMS TO WORK

I have another tank and its only 30 gal this tang is pretty big 6 inches ....he seems to be taking it ok he is still eating and swimming as if nothing was wrong but he is now covered in ick....I have read about the garlic, how would I go about putting that in his food? smash the garlic ? thanks

If bad I would do a FW dip. This will make Ich from the gills release. I don’t have an article but maybe someone will. pH and temp has to be the same as your system I believe. If you do the dip find what in your system is causing the spots to occur, the fish may also be suffering from another ailment.

Ive thought about the freshwater dip but is just too stressful just catching him is gonna be hard because of all the live rock.. I tried the garlic last night, and fed him some more this morning. I got some garlic and put in the some live brine shrimps water. This morning he appeared to be a bit better he is eating and scraping algae off the rocks. He still has the spots but they appear to have subdued a bit but maybe its just me hoping they did i dont know.

I would buy a bigger quarantine tank incase the fish can’t gain immunity because something else is the matter. Messing with immunity is like closing your eyes and walking through a maze. You never know if C. irritan"t"s will take out your fish next round.
Ich is more stressful at times “respiratory” than a FW dip and no more stressful than other treatments if done correctly.
