Male and female guppies? I guess that wouldn't be a problem, your Betta will love the extra food every time the guppies have fry though. However, I'm not an expert on how many fish can belong in a 10 gallon though.

I am wanting to get guppies with the long tails... Im not sure if those are male or female.. Do you know?

My son's 10 gal tank has the following:

1 male betta
3 juvenile female guppies
1 juvenile male guppy
5 juvenile mollies
1 adult oto cat

The juvenile fish are all only one month old; they will soon get too big for this tank, so they'll go elsewhere. That will leave just the betta with the oto, and lots of plants...a good combination. Maybe I'll leave a pair of guppies in their with the betta, too. They seem to keep the betta company.

My son's last betta ate nearly all of the ghost shrimp we put in there, so this is not a happy combination sometimes. I say sometimes, because some folks on this board have mixed ghosties and bettas successfully.

Typical male figures: Fancy tail/fins and attractive colors

Typcial female figures: Larger, duller, plainer. (Female is larger of the two guppies in this picture)

However, I have seen some female guppies with nice colors in them, however, they usually still have the smaller rounder fins.
