Has anyone noticed any problems with angelfish from Petsmart? The petsmart in my town opened about 2 months ago, and their angelfish look terrible about 1 day after they receive them. They get the nasty slime on them, which I think is due to a parasite like chilodonella or costia and many have bacterial septicemia starting too within a few days. Their other fish don't appear to have those same problems, and I know angels are super sensitive to stress and shipment. I was just wondering if anyone else noticed the same thing about other Petsmarts, or if it might just be because the one in my town is pretty new yet. Their angels got so bad they had to even quit selling them for a while. I was hoping the problem would quit in time because they do have many cool varieties on angels, but maybe not?

it's possible they got bad stock from their supplier.
the petco in my area had problems with Blue rams from their supplier..this affected all of the local petco's their tanks were "under observation" for weeks..
I think the problem was finally resolved at the suppliers end.
the sad thing was the rams suffered till they died ..when I asked one of the clerks they told me the supplier requested they put a hold on the rams.I'm not sure they got anykind of meds or treatments..

I saw some angels at my local petsmart over the weekend and they looked in very good shape. Very pretty little guys. I ALMOST bought a couple of them.
That is good to know that some Petsmarts in other areas have good stock. Maybe this is just a local thing that will go away once they have been established longer. They didn't order anymore stock in last week I think to give their angel tanks a rest. Maybe that week of rest was enough time for whatever parasite was in there to die off. They get some in tomorrow and I think I will go and check them out and see if they look any better. If I do get one, he will sit in a quarantine tank for a while just so I can make sure he isn't carrying anything. I have a bunch of little angels in the main tank that I recently got and I don't want to risk them for anything!
I did not read this post, but seeing the title I will give you some advice. DO NOT buy fish from chain stores like petco or petsmart. In my opinion they usually have some kind of disease. That is just what I have noticed.
