I put my female betta in the males 1gal with a clear splitter in the middle to keep them apart. He shows intrest but she just swims around like hes not even there.

The next day his side of the tank is filled with bubble nest and hes still working on it.

And i noticed the female tails been niped...But from what?
Can ghost shrimp attack bettas?

Also how big dose the female have to be to be ready for breeding? Mine is kinda small...About 1 1/2 inches. And my male is huge compared to it. (Not counting tail length)

Also the female betta has i think somting white, the size of a comma (,) hanging by her anal fin.

Thanks

yeah i dont plan on breeding them yet, just seeing if they accept eachother.

I guess its the ghostshrimp that attacked my female...the shrimp is alsmot 1inch big... :duh:

Ok i took the splitter out to let the male go up to her, hes been going crazy ever since. But all he dose is chase after her and attack, so i put the splitter in right away...is this normal behavor?!

all i know is the male is a Royal Blue Crowntail. Some of the tips on his "spiked" tail is purpleish and where his tail connects to his body it looks green.

Same goes for the female, but if you look at her from top down, she looks pure royal blue, but look at her from bottom up shes a mix of light green and darkgree...weird

And thats all i know about them.

Also MQ, the fin nipping and chaseing eachother is normal right? Just aslong as they dont go at it to the point it looks scary.

Thanks

Wow phises, the side you gave me is really helpful.

Found out my betta is a green betta?... not a blue one. *Ahem TheMightyQueenPixie ahem* haha

And this caught my attention.

Occasionally I have found a shortfinned plakat male in a pet store, but more often than not these were cases of mistaken identity as the store was selling them as females. I can only imagine the surprise of the customer that tried to set one of these males up with another male for spawning!

!!!....do you think mine could be one of thos? Or if its a male it would flare up and attack back rather then run away?

it is true plakat male are easily mistaken for female bettas . you also have to remember females betta are not deep in colors as males. yes you will know immediately when they fight each other but as you stated earlier the white dot on the anal fin usually means it is a female ready to mate. Also does your female have horizontal bars on the body? if so that is also another sign the female is carrying eggs and waiting to mate with the males. One more thing if you have a male CT and mating with a regular veil tail female you will end up with VT bettas most likely since VT is a dominant trait in bettas, that is why many breeders only breed CT with CT and HM with HM or with a plakat female sorry this so long .

i thought horizontal bars ment she wants to mate...humm let me check

Theres no bars i can notice, and the white dot on the dorsal fin can be easly seen now. And her belly looks a lil big...

Shes been acting weird also, lays on the bottom for a while and only comes up when i feed her.
