View Full Version : Am I being paranoid about ich?

Last week I began treating my tank for ich because I bought a fish and added it to my tank without quarantining it. Bad idea! Any who…. as soon as I noticed white spots I moved the fish to a cycled tank by itself. I began treating both tanks for ich on 3/9. Two days later that fish died. So far, in the 20gallon, I haven’t seen any other spots or symptoms of ich on my fish. Is it possible that I moved the fish out before the ich had a chance to fall off and multiply, and prevented it from infecting the other tank? Or is that just wishful thinking? I just don’t want to stress my other fish out for no reason but I also don’t want them to die from ich.
Thanks

Yes, it is possible. When I was a newbie, not too long ago, I bought a green barb for my son's tank. No QT -- didn't know what that was -- just put it in the tank. Next day he had spots all over. I took him out and he died.
The 20g never did come down with ich.

usually the white spotts will be on the fish for a week, then they fall off, so if you removed the fish the day after the white spotts manifested then your other fish will most likely be fine.
