Protein Skimmer

I'm converting a marine tank into a freshwater planted tank because the upkeep and the costs are just way too much for me right now. I was wondering if I would be able to use my protein skimmer. Would this strip the water of all nutrients needed for plants, in a sense making water too clean or would it be OK to use?

Fresh water doesn't really have a high enough hardness or TDS for protein skimmers to work, so they're rather useless in a FW tank. You won't get any benefit from it.

I bypassed my skimmer.

It's set up for fresh water and has a wet/dry the skimmer was set up on the lower tank..all I had to do was bypass a couple hoses and just use the wet/dry sump :idea:

meh, that puts a damper on that plans. I wanted to be able to use that sucker but since its CPR bakpak I won't be able to bypass it. Thanks for the help ya'll.
