Anyone here have an indoor pond? I've heard you can use a stock tank for an indoor pond. What kind of filters would you use? How big of a stock tank would be good for 2 goldfish? Lately I have been keeping my two shubunkins in my 80 gallon container pond in the summer and bringing them inside for the winter in my 30 gallon tank. I think my container pond is 80 gallons but I'm not too sure. It's a galvinized tub with a homemade filter. I was just curious how to set up an indoor pond for my fish. Instead of moving between outside and inside. Especially when they get bigger.
I can't really have an outdoor in the ground pond. Could the goldfish live in the container pond outside if I put a de-icer in there or would it still be too cold for them?
Here are pictures of my two goldfish.

Sure, you can use a stock tank for an indoor pond. I would recommend a poly one and not the galvanized. You can also use a preform unit if it is one with a flat bottom. You can also build a frame and use EDPM liner.
I used a 50 gallon kidney shaped preform as an indoor pond for awhile. It worked out good. The only thing you really have to watch for is traveling moisture from a fountain if you use one. You may not be able to see it but it is there and can damage surroundings. Mine made the paint peel on a wooden railing nearby. Bubblers and airstones are a good option. Some people use the aquarium power filters, canister filters or you make your own from a small plastic storage box. That is what I did and it worked great.
Depends on the climate you are in but the fish would probably not survive outside in an 80 gallon container unless you heated it some. Deicer may not be enough. I live in Colorado in zone5/6 and a 100 gallon stock tank will freeze solid during the harshest part of winter.
Hope that helps some.

Thanks for the help Desertponder. I don't think I'll be able to keep them outside unless I have an outdoor in the ground pond. It gets to cold here in the winter. Do you think a 30 gallon tank is big enough for two goldfish? I just hope they don't out grow the 30 gallon tank their in now.

Indoor Pond

You can use a galvanized pond but I was told that if you add salt to the water if fish are sick that the salt will oxidize and cause the fish to die. Not sure about this, just what I heard. Anyway, we've been making our own filters for years and the best one we've ever used is one that can be found on our clubs website at: www.geocities.com/ont_pondkeper

It's so easy to make and maintain and a 20 or 25 gallon rubbermaid garbage can will be perfect for you pond and fish.

As for your outside pond, if you used a heater in there or even placed the pump at the surface of the pond the water would circulate enough at the surface to keep it open.
