Got my cherry red shrimps today, since they are so tiny - some literally a hair thin, i bought a 10g All-Glass q tank for them to grow some (if i put them in my community tank now, half will become snacks for guppies).

My extra aquaclear 50 filter isnt going to work, even on the lowest flowrate it's creating a whirlwind in the tank with the shrimps floating in circles. Here are my questions:

1) how long can i run a competely filled 10 gallon tank that has 30 cherry red shrimps WITHOUT ANY FILTER, before they run out of oxygen?

2) do cherry red shrimps eat their young? I have a couple mature cherry red(about 1 inch) in my biorb i am thinking about moving to the q tank as well, would they eat the tiny babies?

So right now my living room looks like a fish market, got my 50 gallon in 1 corner, biorb on my dining table, the 10g q tank on the floor, and a rubbermaid bucket with a single guppy healing his damaged tail. :shark:

ps the 10g all glass tank is very poorly made, makes me glad i went with seaclear instead, on my real tank. Cant even compare the worksmanship.

I'm sure you could go many days without a filter. Do you have an airstone or something similar you could toss in there. Lots of shrimp people use and prefer sponge filters.

I just got my shrimp and I am using an Eclipse hood with it's filter, but I have covered the intake with a sponge to keep from sucking in the babies and to slow down the flow of the filter.

They do not eat their young, so they will all be safe and happy together.

My shipment included about 40+ shrimp of all sizes, including one pregnant female. I'm excited to get a nice breeding population going so that I can have them in my other aquariums.

I have about 12 charry shrimp in a 5 1/2 gallon with no filter and they are doing fine, they have been in there for about a month now.
