I bought three Orange Chromides about a month ago. I have been reading up on these little cuties. I have them in with my Dwarf Blue Rams, Groumies, Danio's and Cory Cats. I asked the Tropical store if the Chromide would be ok in my tank, they did not tell me they were brackish, they didn't even give me the right name of the fish. After research, I just found out what they were and that they were brackish. They are doing great and eat "VERY" well (little pigs). I believe I have a pair and think they may have laid eggs on the underside of one of my plants (not really sure), they keep chasing off the other fish when they come near. I read to add salt to the tank for the eggs/fry, will it hurt my other fish? Thanks for your input! - Cindy

Don't add salt to that tank! It will be really bad for the other fish. For your chromides, you'll need to set up a brackish water tank (marine mix not aquarium salt - you need the stuff that makes saltwater for saltwater aquariums).

However, what was the LFS keeping them in? How hard is your water? What I'm getting at is that some brackish fish will be OK for a while in FW, especially if you have hard, high pH water. You could leave them in the current tank as is until you can set up another tank.
