Someone in Australia wants some of the java moss I have. Is it legal to ship java moss over there? How long will it take to get there? How much will it cost? How do I ship it? I was also thinking of sending some snails and maybe some baby platys. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have no ideal. Try calling the company you are considering shipping with and asking or call you Post office tomorrow morning. They can let you know.

I'm really not sure.

BTW...Why is Java Moss so hard to find/purchase?? I finally asked my LFS to order me some because I just can't find it anywhere.

Be very very careful with sending to Australia. They have very strict rules governing the importation of flora, fauna and animals. They won't run the risk of letting anything "foreign" to their habitat into their eco system.

I'd see if you can Google the Australian customs and excise board and try and find out their rules and regulations. Seriously check this out before going any further.

Java moss is cheap and readily available in australia. Customs for live shipments in Australia is very hard...

Tell them to buy it in lfs - it will be cheaper than the postage to Australia.

you need if I remember rightly several permits that get quite pricey and really are pointless for one shipment

I would not bother - unless you have some very special java moss. It's readily available in Australia.

I doubt it would be possible as we have very strict quarantine rules here.

I live in Tasmania and can't even buy plants from other states within Australia!!
