I am in the process of adding led lights to my tank for night lights... I have a 10 gallon how many would you recomend? and a good place to buy them from where they dont carge 7 bucks a bulb?

Dana:

I saw some LED Xmas light strings this past season. They came in white and in blue. I thought of getting one for spare bulbs, but then I looked at my wallet and decided the money was better spent on necessary purchases. If I see any around I will buy a string of 100, though.

I have two white lights on my 10, with an old calculator power supply of 4V DC. They shine brightly and are more than enough for the tank. My 2 lights came in an expensive (around $25.00) unit, though.

Just Google around for a whole bunch of links on how to DIY your own nightlights. Radioshack or any electronics supply store is all you need for the parts.

Blue LED X'mas lights work just fine if you're not picky about hitting that exact 450-470 mM wavelength of natural moonlight, although this was reason #1,345 why my wife thinks this hobby of mine is insane.
