I have a 55 gallon planted tank, about 6 weeks old. Already cycled. pH=6.8, KH=7, GH=6, nitrates=5 ppm, ammonia & nitrite=0 ppm, 110 watt lights, temp=74

Bought four angels about 2 weeks ago, very healthy. One of them has become very listless and gasping for air. No other outward signs of disease except for stringy gray poop. I feed them flake every day though I did feed them a bit of blood worms about 4 days ago. All other fish very healthy. Ideas?

I also have 6 otocynclus, 3 siamese algae eaters and 4 guppies. (that I used to cylce the tank -in addition to water and old filter from other, well established aquarium)

Well, when I had angels a few weeks ago, they did the same thing, then they couldn't swim right and would let their body tumble around in the current, and in a day or 2 they were dead. I hope that doesn't happen to you.

what are your ammonia, nitrite, nitrate readings? Is the angel still eating?Stringy poop is usually associated with internal parasites.if she is still eating try medicated flakes

I would like to help.Do have a picture of the fish.It sounds like maybe a internal parasite .Here is a site you might want to check out it has pictures http://www.2cah.com/pandora/Disease.html#External .It is sometimes hard to figure these things out, oneday a fish is happy swiming around and the next day its not.It could be anything, sometimes the fish has a dorment disease that is trigger by something.Sometimes its just old age?Maybe someone else can add to this post.Good luck.

Angels are prone to a virus like infection that matches your symptoms. I had 6 angels die one after another. If you don't have snails I've heard it can sometimes be treated with copper sulfate like Had-a-Snail and antibiotics. I understand clout can also work.
I suggest immediately isolating the sick fish and treating both tanks with copper sulfate and the q-tank with clout.
good luck
