Hello,
I will be getting a sump soon so.......
(55 gallon tank) I want to know how many times the tank volume needs to be turned over through a sump per hour. Also, I have a need for pump reccomendations. (submersible only)
Thanks for the time!

I have heard you want to have the tank water circulate through the sump 3-5 times per hour. Mine turns the tank over a little over 6X. So somewhere between 150 and 300 gph for your, I guess.

it depends entirely on your preference. on my 40 breeder im goign to have about 600.
WHen it comes down to it, it doesnt make much of a difference.
as far as pump recomendations, it will depend your pluming back from the tank, how high up the tank is, and what pluming/bulkheads you are using to get down to the sump.

Ok thanks!
I will get either a Quiet 1 3000 or a Magdrive 7, and throttle it back with a ball valve. I also will have the output with eductors to maximize flow throughout the tank.

the quiet one 3000 is not very powerful. esspecialy if there are any elbows, horizontal flow, ect. also it depends how high up your tank is. how bigof an overflow are you expecting to have?

depends are you keeping lr/ls in your sump
if you are then 3-5 times is good, faster then that and you ls/lr is useless as the detritus is going to be moving to fast for detritus to settle
