I have never put plants in my tanks all of the years I have had fish. So I know nothing about them. In my 90 gallon tank I have caves, tank gravel, and fake plants. I noticed that my Kissing Gourami and my dwarf gourami sometime peck at the fake plants. I would like to get a plant that they can munch on but don't have a clue when it comes to plants. Any help?

First i'd like to suggest to browse the plant forum a little - especially for threads where people asked about "beginner plant questions".
There is a lot of information that has been posted many times over.
Most important issue here is lighting.

I am not sure what exactly gouramis eat (plant wise) so i can't help you there. I actually am happy that none of my tank inhabitants eat my plants. lol

This is very typical gourami behaviour IME. Mine, especially the dwarf honey loves to just pick from leaf to leaf and from plant to plant all day long. I do have live plants, but I don't think he's eating the plant, I think he's just finding algae spores or food remnants or something. But good luck. I love having live plants in my tanks. I used to be quite a gardener, but living in an apartment with 5 cats has somewhat limited my options now, so I am getting serious about creating heavily planted tanks.
Good luck,
Mary.
