A buddy has a 30 gallon with one oscar, he was using it as a grow out and now his 70 gallon is cycled and ready for the transfer. The oscar is around 7 or 8 inches.

He wants to put either a jack dempsey or green texas in the tank with the oscar, we know it has to be around the same size. He plans to get it as a trade in from a LFS, but does he have to put them in at the same time so the oscar doesnt fight with the dempsey/texas when he gets it 2 weeks later?
Should he just leave the oscar in the 30 gallon and wait? I just have a peacock tank so I have no idea.

Thanks

Thats what I'd think would be best. Since all of those are terretorial, just put 'em in once the tank is ready and they'll work the rest out.

But don't try it just 'cause I said so, wait for someone else to confirm, lol ;)

Id say that you should introduce them at the same time or introduce the smaller cichlid first,(whichever one that would be)Oscars and dempseys arnt bully fish, so it shouldnt be a huge prob.!

Thanks, he didnt want to buy the Dempsey and have the oscar kill it or the other way around. But he also didnt want to have a 70 gallon with only and oscar in it. He is kinda attached to the oscar since he's had it for like a year and a half so he really doesnt want that one getting hurt. He has no clue when the LFS will get a Dempsey trade.....

Absolutely put them in at the same time. Although Oscars often have a bad reputation for being agressive I have more trouble with my firemouth starting fights then my two O's
