Hello fellow fish lovers,

been reading through the threads and now I am convinced I have two female Dutch Rams.
Sunday I went to my local LFS and requested a pair of the Dutch Rams, Yesterday I done my evening checks to see if all was well and noticed both are now displaying the pinkish red bellies. I'm now going to have to buy a male but if I do that and he pairs off with one will they gang up on the reject female.
My follow on question now is can I keep 2 pairs of rams in a 3'x1'x1' planted tank, considering I have already 3 Corys that are occupying the bottom level or am I asking for trouble. I have tried to contact my LFS by phone but have yet to be connected in a sense this is a good thing cos I'm :mad2: as hell, why do they do that I suppose to the unsuspecting customer they don't care as long as it money in their tills. I'm so annoyed it's my local LFS & I spend quite alot in there on a regular basis, and of late I am getting some very conflict advise. Saturday I asked what I could do about snails and was informed buy a dwarf puffer, he'll do the job, Sunday I went to buy the puffer and was glad I asked for information again, to be told by another member of staff that it was not a wise choice, he would eventually turn to be the bully of the tank, getting so much conflict information. Hence why my stocking level is so low.

3 Corys
5 Black Neons
5 Rummynose Tetra
and the new additions the 2 female Dutch Rams

Can any one advise what other fish I can add plus number and what can I include for the top level of the tank. I'm so glad that there are these types of forums about 'cos I know the advise is for real. Thanking you all in advance.

I wouldn't get too mad at the LFS.
first you have consider the fact that you cannot arbitrarily pick two rams and expect a pair bond to form. if you asked for a pair and got two rams then you got a pair..maybe not a spawning pair but you got a pair.
in fact the general rule when trying to find a spawn pair..you would select 1 male and 2 females and hope that a breeding pair is formed. it is likely that you would have to reove the lone female.

now consider your tank.3'x1'x1' is a 20gal..I would not recommend any more rams in this tank.

I don't think you should be mad at the store. Most people, even LFS employees, have a hard time sexing fish. You inspected the fish in the bag before leaving the store and also thought you had both a male and a female.

A good store will let you exchange one of the females for a male.

Always do your research before buying a fish based on LFS employee advice. I will sometimes come back home, look online for information, and then go back for the fish.
