KH Shock??

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have some discus in a planted tank set up with a pressurized c02 system going and a ph of 7, and a kh of 90. I want to move my discus to a larger, lightly planted tank with no co2 injection, a ph of 7 and a kh of 30. Is the bump down from the kh of 90 to 30 going to cause a problem for my discus?

Is there such a thing as KH shock, or is the difference in ph more critical? Thanks.

Just drip acclimate the discus to the new water. They should be fine. They would most likely be fine just getting thrown into the new tank, but its best to take a little bit of precaution when making changes like that.

Not a Discus Keeper, but I definately agree With NAT it's better to take the safe approach even if there probably won't be an issue.

Additional info on the subject:
TDS changes are what actually cause "pH Shock" pH changes created by CO2 will have virtually no effect at all on fish within normal tank ranges. So in Truth KH or GH shock is a concern pH shock is a misnomer.

The next thing to remember is that lowering Dissolved solids levels does not usually cause as much of a problem as raising them. In other words It would be more of a concern for me to move fish from 30 KH to 90 KH than to move them from 90 KH to 30 KH. Obviously Drastic rapid changes in either direction can cause trouble but a shift from 90 down to 30 is not really that huge of a change if Most of the other hardness parrameters are about the same.

Either way it's always good to be cautious as said, but I don't think you'll have any problem with the move
