There has been one neon that since I got him, his redness has been faded and his body looks curved on the bottom. He is swimming fine and everything else looks ok. another neons has like almost a faded band around his back by his tail and ihe looks a bit lumpy by his stomach. Other then that, all of the other neons looks fine. Should I euthanise these 2?

Okay, from this link (Neon Tetra Disease (http://freshaquarium.about.com/library/weekly/aa092601a.htm)), it looks like your fish has NTD, and that you need to separate them from the others and euthanasia is probably your best option at that point.

Ok, I will do that now. Tomorrow is my water change day, so I will change about 35% of the water instead of 25%.

Gotcha. Good luck with the rest of the Neons, that disease sucks, but it happens to the best of us (and to me, too!)

Ok, those 2 neons just got the royal flush. I hope the rest are ok. I will probably get more fish and plants tomorrow.
Please do not flush your fish to euthanise them.
Its a prolonged and cruel death.
Best way to euthanise your fish is to put them in 4:1 solution of vodka and water. (4 parts water, 1 part Vodka (or Gin)).
Do not freeze fish that death sucks.

Point taken. Warning to all: we should NOT NOT NOT start that euthanasia thread again!

Oh, come on, ChilDawg, Euthanasia and Salt are two of the staples on this board - just usually not this quick in reappearing. (Only kidding, I agree with you.)
NJ Devils Fan, there was recently another thread on euthanasia (multi-paged, locked thread, mostly ridiculous but some good info). Search for it if you want.

maybe someone should do a poll to see what the most popular method is?

Yah, if you had the flu, how would you feel if your fish flushed YOU?

There is a difference between a fish and a human. Please, will a mod just lock this before it goes any further.

Important diagnostic features of NTD are seperation from the shoal and restless swimming at night.
Without observing these, I would not diagnose NTD.
And flushing is not exactly humane destruction. NJ - you said "euthanise". Euthanise means "Good death". See the contradiction?

Good point! I bought some neons at a "special" price for 6 of them. After about 3 months, I started loosing one every other week (well, I removed them anyway) due to these same symptoms. No other fish have been infected (almost a year now), including neons I had purchased prior to these, so I assume it wasn't NTD, but who knows? If they had cost more I might have tried to save them, but they were cheap and since there is a difference betweem them and us, they got the garbage disposal. Ooops! Did I say that?!

Yikes! So much for protection from quarantine. Quarantine is usually a month to 6 weeks. 3 months is a long time for symtoms to appear.

That's why I doubt it was NTD. I suspect it was poor brood stock that contributed to these fish's poor health. Somehow I think the "special" price I paid initially has something to do with it. None of them grew too well either. I just removed the last one of that bunch for a grand total of six months! I am off to get some cardinals!
