what would you call this guy? he's got those wide snake-like scales down his side, scales down his belly and dorsal, and between those strips is scale-less.
also, how much do you think he is worth? he is about 8" long.

and how much do you think this 5" (without tail) shubunkin is worth?

I think that your first fish is a Koi and it looks to me like a Doitsu Ki Matsuba and the other fish looks like a Shubunkin Goldfish.

Doitsu yes, ki matsuba is a stretch, it's a mutt  :D

These two fish are only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for them... personally I'd give them away.

Get a bigger net :thud:

koilady, i was already aware that the first one was a koi and the second was a shubunkin. i said so in my first post.

and i already posted on another koi-specific forum and got my answer already. mutts.

and i haven't touched the fish with a net in 2 years, then a few days ago i have to move them to a larger pond and just didn't buy a new net because it was just a few feet.

I see you've found bito.... :) very good board, fantastic knowledge base there.

You still need a bigger net LOL
Best to transport 'larger' koi (GF) with a sock net, or in a bag with a bit of water, or in a plastic tub with a bit of water... that way injury is minimal and saves the slime coat.
