So I just tested my Phosphates and I'm at .5. So I thought I'd add some Fleet to try and get it up to 1. It was the first time I used it and I accidentally squeezed in about 5 drops. I waited about 10 minutes and tested and its still at .5ppm. I'm not sure if I need to wait longer to see an effect?

I've never done the by drops method. I use a syringe to measure my fleet.

From my understanding 1 ml should get you 0.87 ppm in a 46 gallon tank, thats assuming water volume is within 40-45 gallons.

I don't know how many drops that would be but it doesn't seem like 5 would be enough.

edit: Its noon and I'm still not awake.

I see you're already at .5 so you'd only need to add half the amount. I still don't know how many that would be to equal .5 ml though.

I have a mL syringe I can use, I was just going by the guide. I'll go do that then.

How long do I wait before I test?

fyi..I know Fleets aren't overly expensive, but you can go cheaper yet by using a store brand. Just compare labels to be sure you are getting the right stuff.

I don't test for phosphates because I don't have a test but I would think after an hour or so the tank has turned over enough times to get an accurate reading.

Thanks guys! I saw a store brand of the stuff...but wasn't sure it was exactly the same and I'm playing it safe this first time around!

.50 mls. - approx. 8 drops of Fleets out of the bottle will yield approx. 1.92ppm in your tank.
I've never been one for being precise, so in this case I use the old 16 drops = 1ml. equation and it's worked well for me over the years.
Having a syringe would make it a bit more accurate.:)
