I've always put in tap water with dechlorinator and some cycle into my tanks, but I have a friend who has always just put in distilled water. I also have heard people putting in bottled water and cycle. What is best? I was told that it is good to use tap water because it contains necessary minerals for fish tanks. The tap water I use has good hardness and not alot of phosphates and I've always used this for all of my tanks. So, what is the best type of water to use?

No idea, we have well water at my house, I have always used it with no problems what so ever.

i think they all work well, except pure RO, as it has nothin but water in it... tap water works fine, so long as you get rid of the chlorine and chloromine... i dont think any one has an advantage over the others unless you are trying to raise some REALLY sensitive fish or inverts... just make shure your heater or copper piping is not really old... and if it is, then purge your heater (faucet at the bottom of the tank)

The best is tap water with dechlorinator. Distilled Water and RO water are just too pure for the fish and will end up harming them. Bottled water is in my opinion a big waste of money. I have some of the fanciest filters at my disposal (I'm in the biotech industry) and I still use tap water with dechlorinator. Stop using the Cycle stuff, you are just throwing your money in the garbage.
