I have SeaClone 100 protein skimmer. I had this setup in my 55 gal tank for more than year and yet I never collected anything on the collection cup.

I cleaned it and now I have it setup in the sump of my new 70gal tank.

First, was my skimmer working in the first place? Since I have had nothing collect in the cup.

I have adjusted to air valve so that I see a stream of bubble go up the skimmer. And I also get a steady water stream from the skimmer's lip back to the sump. Is this the proper operating procedue for this skimmer? Am I doing something wrong?

A skimmer is supposed to remove organic waste which you toss out of the collection cup. So unfortunately your skimmer has been nothing but a fancy bubble maker for the last year.

Seaclones have a horrid reputation. My suggestion is to purchase a better skimmer.

Yup. I'm afraid he's right. You get what you pay for...

i have a seaclone and it works fine...it pulls out some nasty stuff...causes some micro bubbles, but i use some pantyhose to stop the bubbles.

So what is the difference between his SeaClone and mine? Why does one work and another doesn't?

How do I tweak it work?

Do a Google search for "seaclone skimmer mods" or something like that. You'll get a lot of hits from similarly frustrated people.

In the end, most of the these people simply get a better skimmer as they advance in the hobby.

But that doesn't help the situation. Right here on this thread we have someone that has his skimmer setp right such that it work the way it suppose to. I have heard from others on this site and others on various forums that had success with seaclone 100, so what I want to know is how to setup the skimmer such that it works.

Sorry for not being more clear earlier. If you do a Google for Seaclone mods you'll find many examples of how people have managed to make their Seaclones work to one degree or another using various modifications and other remedies.

After doing some research I came to this conclusion about my SeaClone 100.
The Seaclone 100 is not one of the best protein skimmers available on the market. Yet for the price, it is one of the better skimmers. I learned that my Seaclone wasn’t collecting a lot of waste in the cup while on my 55gal tank for a couple of reasons. First the tank had very low bioload with about 7 fishes (mostly damsels with average of 2.5 inches) and few corals.
Now while in the sump of my 70gal tank, it isn’t collecting any waste since there isn’t any fished or corals.
I learned that for the best operation of the seaclone 100, it is best to place the intake valve no more than 2 inches below the surface of the water. I also learned that it would work better if airstone is placed instead of the sponge. This produce smaller bubbles.
