Tank clearning additive

My new tank is slightly cloudy. I have mix of distilled and tap water so I presume this is tap water related. Do the store-bought clearing additives work? Are there side effects?

when your tank has completed cycling, it'll clear up on its own. in the interum, don't use chemicals.
