i was viewing some reef sites and notice some people are building smaller sized tanks with saltwater.........and wanting to know some pro's and cons ...i can pick up 10gallon tanks all day anywhere for like 5-10 bucks and walmart sells a nice 35 gallon tank kit thats not to bad in price......i do have a 125 gallon project i wanna do but thats gonna take time and alot of cash to get going...and i figure i could get a smaller tank going so i can have somthing......what do u all think...10 gallon tank would be cheaper but i know 35 would be more stable...and i know of this guy selling some filters ....anyways and idea's or comments? :help:

Also i was going to mention i purchased a 24inch 65watt coralife light awhile back cause i had a planted tank and i was wondering if this could be added to the tank or if cora lift made a bulb i could replace it with that would be sutable for saltwater? do they make a compact bulb that comes with atinic and a regular bulb? it has in it a 65 watt 6700k straight pin compact flourescent blub in it

10 gallons require alot more attention as to water changes and checking peremeters. I have a 10 and i know first hand that you have to keep all of you equipment in check to make sure it is working properly. Just imagine If your heater (in the tank) goes out in the middle of winter, I would take alot longer for the water of a 150 gal to drop than it would a 10. I have some pics...

It is alot of work but i consider it to be very well worth the work!

I have a 10 that started as a qt for my 75 but as I wasn't using it it gradually became a nano......yes it takes a bit more work, but then water changes are easy as they are only 2g instead of 15 so doing them more often isn't a big deal. I am only into the 10 for about 6 weeks.......it is coming but I am constantly on the look out for a cheap 20 to upgrade to......thinking of a nanocube 24 g. we shall see......then I can reuse the 10 for it's intended purpose a quarantine tank.......

Call me crazy, but I've been running a 2.5g for about 2 1/2 months now. Algae is non-existant. I currently have buttons, mushrooms, zoos, stars, xenia, and recently the tiniest hammer coral frag you've ever seen. All polyps are spreading. I just to 25% WC EVERY WEEK, keep up on top offs, and check salinity often. It began as an experiement, and i'm kinda surprised it hasn't crashed yet. The clown goby that I added a month ago is looking good as well.

Nothing against AC members, but you might try nano-reef.com (they have a forum for pico reefs). They are a little more progressive there.
