I think my molly fish may be pregant, but i'm not entirely sure. Over the last couple of weeks, and espically the last couple of day, her chest and belly have gotten quite fat. In the past, I have only had ballon mollies that have been pregnant, so I don't really know what a normal molly looks like when they are pregnant. What is strange is that I have not noticed and chasing and mating by the male at all. She seems healthy and is eating well. So is she preggers or sick? I can see no gravid spot but that is probaly becuase she is dark with black spots all over her body (dalmation). Becuase i have seen no mating, could she og got pregnant at the store where i brought her from? I got her about 4 moths ago, and isn't that the time period of gestation for mollies??? Please help.

are the scales of the fish standing out in a pine-cone effect? check Google for pics of fish with "Dropsy" and note whether or not your fish looks like that. if no scales are standing out, the fish "may" be pregnant.

no, the scales are no way sticking out. She has gotten less rounded and slimmed diwn, so i checked in the tank for any fry incase she gave birth wen i was out. Couldn't see any- maybe they were eaten. But at least i know she has not got dropsy.

Fry are so small you almost have to see them by accident when they are only a few days old. Where her fins clamped? My sword tails didn't clap their fins when they are almost ready to give birth, but they seemed sick because they spent a lot of time just chilling about. Clamped fins are a sure sign of illness or a lot of stress.

she doesn't have clmped fins, no. Even if they where fry, they are problay dead by now cos i did a water change yesterday! She is gettin a bit fatter now, and, interestingly, it is after she has eaten. I definately do not feed her too much, quite the oppisite. So what is the problem?
