Nothing. I would ditch the emporer and go with a sump. I had a emporer until I made a sump. The sump works better than the emporer. If you stick with the emporer just use the filter cartriges. When I removed my emporer my nitrates went WAY down. It's up to you, if you stick with it just do big water changes. How big is your tank, if it's under 75gal then the emporer should be ok if bigger ditch the filter.
