Monday morning test

hmm... I got 10 out of 11.... can't figure this one out though or am I thinking too hard?

Divide 30 by 1/2 and add 10. What is the answer?
70, (30 divided by 1/2 equals 60! Takes some thinking.

It's been a LONG time since I did fractional division, but I think it's:

30 divided by 1/2 =

30/1 divided 1/2 (use the recipicol and multiply)

30/1 x 2/1 = 60/1 = 60 + 10 = 70

Since most of us would automatically think of .5 and not an actual fraction, we would end up with 15 and add 10 for 25. Which is what I did, of course :)

this is AC, wouldn't we just fire up excel, make a nice spreadsheet and create a chart out of this ??

But 30 divided by 0.5 = 60, the same as 30 divided by 1/2 is 60.

If it were 30 multiplied by 0.5 (or 1/2) then it would be 15.

Unfortunately, I got the american biased questions wrong. I wouldn't have a clue how many innings there are in a baseball game, for example. Which is also why I didn't understand "Is there a 4th July in Europe" or whatever the question was. I thought it was some kind of trick question - completely forgetting the reason as it's not celebrated here. You can see how that would be kind of odd!
