Wowowowow! I just saw the weirdest/coolest thing. I bought 16 Amano Shrimp from my LFS for $16. I didn't want the LFS water in my tank so I put them in a bucket and netted them into my tank.

During the time they were in the net, they would CRAWL NORMALLY in the dried net and JUMP BACK INTO THE WATER!!! Is there something I'm missing here? This happened with ALL of them. How long can they survive in land?

My ghost shrimp thing do the same thing, except I have to cover up the net with my hand cause they will jump out if I dont.

I don't know how long they can live probably not too long.

Really?? My ghost shrimp NEVER do that. They just hop/struggle around on their backs like all fish. The Amanos actually crawl just like they would in water.

I don't believe that they are land crawlers, but will work pretty hard to get back into the water if they are removed. I've seen my amano shrimp hop into the water from a net too...also hop off of decor that gets removed from the water during cleaning. They're pretty quick at it. :)

I see. Well mine were actually crawling, not hopping. They were walking normally in the nets for about 2 minutes until they got close to the water and then they just simply crawled out of the net and into the water without any sign of panic.

My amanos walk in the net. They crawl up the sides and jump back in the water. They are fast. I've heard if they get on the ground they'll run like cockroaches!

Okay, then I'll be more specific...they had to crawl to the edge of the net, and then jumped back into the water. My point was they move quite quickly.

BTW, $1 per amano shrimp is a very good price. I paid quite a bit more ($5-7 Canadian?) per shrimp.

I pay about £1.75 usually. About US $3.

I paid only 1$ (Canadian) each because they're on sale (til' Friday) at my LFS (Big Al's). Big Al's in Scarborough is by far the best LFS you can ask for. Therefore I'm 1000% sure they're Amanos. Pretty cool creatures. I'm gonna go buy 10-20 more before friday. Can't miss out, and I have 5 tanks to divide them into so I won't overstock :)

Wow! Maybe I should go to Big Al's this week!...I'd like to get a few more.

They are a pretty good place. Only issue is that the store I've been going to has had some problem with disease (heard similar from other aquarists) and selling fish anyway. The last introductions to my tank brought ick that killed some of my original fish too (yeah, next time I will definitely quarantine...but Big Al's shouldn't be selling fish they know have disease either.) :-( The amano shrimp were fine though. I'm going to be buying fish from a local LFS next time instead.

Wow are you serious??? My Big Al's is AWESOME!!! Whenever they have a disease they put up a sign saying: "New Arrivals, not ready for sale". Then they treat the fish and take off the sign in 2-3 weeks. I never had a sick fish in my quarantine and I bought over 100 fish from Big Als.

Well, they weren't so forthcoming at this location. I was steered away from one tank that had ick (that was supposed to be "offline" from the other tanks), but there was no sign whatsoever. Management was leaving it up to the staff to mention any disease. I bought from a different tank and ended up with ich that showed up on my new fish almost immediately anyway. When I went back to talk to the manager, he argued with me that he didn't see ich in the tank (I saw a number of fish at that point that had it!) and wouldn't give me a straightforward answer about how they deal with disease and inform customers about disease.

yes a lot of shrimp will try to escape from aquariums and run along the floor. it's not that uncommon.

Alright cool. I was shocked cuz the only other shrimp I ever had before were ghost shrimp, so I didn't think shrimps could do that :duh:

these are teh same as flower shrimp right? I just paid $13 for one...and $6 for the another...
That IS a good price.

THe lady at petsmart was putting it into the bag and it jumped out of the next about 3 feet! Luckily it landed in one of those little plastic containers on the side of the table and not the floor.

nah.. its not the same as flower shrimp.. Amanos are almost like ghosts but with a slightly thicker shape and red dots on their sides. The reason they cost more is because they eat algae on a regular basis.

ALthough not the samne, I had a crayfish scape from one of my tanks and found him about 25 ft. away, throwing his pinches at me.
