I just managed to get a GREAT deal on a brand new RENA XP2 canister filter. I've heard that the mechanical filtration part can cause high nitrates, but I was wondering if you could run it without the mechanical filtration. Maybe as a biological supplemental filtration system and use the spray bar for extra flow?
I've got a 29 gallon FOWLR with a maxijet 600 and 1000 power heads. The 1000 blows the fish all over the place and the clowns don't seem to like it and seem to struggle within the flow. I figured I could take it out, and just use the spraybar and the maxijet 600. Do you guys think that would work? I also thought about removing all the filter baskets and putting in a piece of live rock, lol. I didn't know if anyone had ever done this. Just an idea, I guess.
So will a canister work on a FOWlR?
