I hear the zebra or olive nerites are the best as they won't go out of control population wise. I just ordered 5 olives and some malaysian trumpet snails. I have a ton of mystery snail hitchhikers which I keep pulling out everytime I see one.

True Mysteries are egg layers, they attach an eggsack to the top of your tank, so population controll is very easy (just toss in trash if you don't want more)
You also need both a male and female snail to reproduce and it takes them some time to reach sexual maturity so I can't see population controll being an issue.
They also will not eat healthy plants.
I have alot of extras because I have been breeding them, I have gold and white ones I might be able to ship to do depending on your location if you wanted. but not untill next week. be sure to put some crushed coral in your filter if you have a low PH it will also provide them with the necessary calcium.

Thats interesting! Ok then I don't know what these are... They leave their egg sacs everywhere, often in places that are hard to reach (driftwood, undersides of things, leaves, etc) and are stuck on hard!
They are really ugly with spots all over their shells. Except one which is a purplish color and growing the fastest, that one is pretty.
I've got over 20 that have reproduced from the plants I've brought in (there are more I know it...). I need to find someone that need snails for feeders or something. Right now I just pull them and put them in a breeder trap until I know what to do with them.
Hehe yes. I was peer pressured into adding a purple string to my avatar : . But yes she is a domestic bengal. Unfortunately she just lost her first litter (premature devastated). She is an F3 so her great-grandfather was an Asian Leopard Cat but her kittens won't be hybrids as the 4th generation removed are considered domesticated.

I'm not sure but most apple snails lay eggs out of the water other than the one that gets really big and eats plants. If the eggs fall in the water the snails will drowned before they hatch.
If you plan to keep mysteries, then make sure your tank has a lid, or you might find them on the floor every so often and have to drop them back in the water (they can live inside their shells for quite some time out of the water)
