currently have in my 55g tank

2 tiger barbs
5 red eye tetra
1 purple gulip (dragon fish)
1 blueish crawfish (lobster)
1 common pleco

guy at the lfs told me angle fish would work...i really liked them....i found only part of them left after a week in the tank. i was very mad. this is only a few days after 2 of my tiger barbs where ate. i really would like some color in my tank now, that can hang with my animals in there. i have about 8 plants also. any suggestions to what fish i can mix with these guys?

You could maybe add a gourami or something, they can be pretty colorful, or maybe some american cichlids like a pair of convicts.

That dragon fish, a violet goby, is actually a brackish fish. It probably won't survive more than a few months in a freshwater tank.

If you don't want all your fish to end up half eaten on the gravel you might want to move the lobster to another tank. As long as he is in there all your fish are nothing but feeders.

Once you move the lobster out I'd recommend a couple of Dwarf variety Gouramis. They are very colorful.

Get either the Regular Dwarfs, red and blue stripes or they have a red variety I think they call Dwarf Flame Gourami, red with blue fins I think.

Your Pleco will also get to large for that tank. You might want to trade it in for a smaller version, maybe a bristlenose.

Seriosly, all the gouramies have some finnage wich will be an easy target for the tiger barbs. most cichlids seem to have some good finnage on them to so that may be out of the question, but some don't. I personally have researched endlessly about some colurful cichlids/gouramies to go with my buenos aires tetras. some people keep angels with those tets, but I trusted them with a threespot gourami once and it was moved to another tank - the pelvic fins. so far I have canceled out gouramis and only found one cichlid so far, the lake bermin tilapia. the tets and barbs in your tank can handle any large agressive fish as long as they don't get eaten, there to fast and small for the larger fish to worry about. here is a link for that tilapia but be careful to get only captive bred fish for the reason in the link:

the non tets/ barbs may have problems but the people who replied before me said they shouldn't be in there any way.
