Well, he's all leg and huge bone--this'll be one big Walking Horse!! Still
not out of the woods--another week will tell. He's lost 15 pounds, but
mamma is still making milk and letting him get it--still feeling like a
pin cushion on his little hiney. I included pix of daddy, "D," son and grand
son of two stallions of the century; also mom--Sable is a beaut. Rosie
is his full sister. Legs are still wobbly--poor little boy.

So please keep Little Man in your thoughts/prayers/whatevers--and
thank you all for your kind words. It's always great to find other people
who love horses, amongst all our other critters. :thm:

well,

I have my fingers crossed..

I'm sure you have nothing to worry about!

OMG! What a great pictures! Lil man and his momma is in my thoughts!!
*HUGSSSSSSS*

 Glad to see your pics. He looks good...till you see his little boney ribs in the pic when he's laying down. Poor baby! Is he getting enough now?

Nursie, for some reason unbeknownst to us he's not packing on the pounds
like he should. Sable's making enough milk; all I can figure is he can't
stand up long enough yet to get enough at a time???? He should be quite
sturdy on his legs by now, running away from mama to make her mad!! The
sunshine and fresh air are good for him (although the stalls in Sonny's old
barn are constructed the old fashioned way--small window to the outside
with no covering, and barn through way stays open. No pampered ponies
here--makes 'em healthy. If he were in the wild, he'd have been picked off
by now :( . By next Saturday . . .

Thanks doog--I really appreciate it!! ;)

Jinxx--thanks!! Huggssss back, and a muzzle buss from Little Man!!!

And DD--keep your fingers crossed all week--it'll be hard to do stuff, but
thanks!!! :dance2: ~Renee (little momma)

Is there anything you can give him in addition to what he's getting from momma to put some weight on him?

Aside from the meds he's getting, mother's milk is the best thing for him.
It's a hard thing, but as Sonny says, nature will take her course.
If he just won't put on weight and get stronger there's nothing else we
can do. We have an absolutely champion equine vet team working
on him--if there is anything they can do, they will.

Last year we had a
foal born, different sire and dam, with a different ailment, but resulting in
the same kind of weakness (does that make sense?) Same weakness,
wobbityness, yet he made it and is now a big, strong yearling--Irish.
So that gives me hope, but guarded. It's driving me nutss!! I stayed up
last night setting up my 55g, washing sand and gravel, getting biomedia
in the filters, putting in gravel from another tank, a plant, some water.
Kept me from thinking about it!!!!! So, day by day. . . . ~R

He is pretty skinny, I would do everything to try and pack on some pounds. Have you had mom's milk tested to ensure it is good milk? Did he get all of his colostrum and has good antibodies? Why do the vets say he is still so wobbly? I would definitely try supplementing him with synthethic milk or milking mom and ensuring he is getting it. That would be the only way to get him out of this. I know it is a lot of work, trust me been there done that. Here are some pics of my kid when he was born (1 week old in pics) http://www.shiredalefarm.com/DArtagnan2
Anyway glad to see he is up but I would definitely be worried at his body condition. Anyway hope this helps and hope he makes it!

Well, as of this morning he's stronger!!!! Yay!!! He's getting more milk (he seems to prefer a little at a time with lots of feedings). He got initial colostrum from our vet, then he got some more in little bits. Still getting meds. We were doing mom's milk and FoaLac, but the bottle feedings aren't necessary any longer. I think we're on the edge of good/bad--watching his legs get more secure under him is really encouraging.

MonoSebaeLover, thanks for your concern. I think I wrote somewhere that 9 years ago my QH mare had a foal, dummy, got NO colostrum from mom so vet gave her 4 quarts of mare plasma plus more I don't even remember. I had to literally live in that stall 24/7 for week, milking BB, getting Zephyr to drink out of bucket, start sucking on my fingers, then a bottle, then pushing her up to momma. Got her through with flying colors only to lose her at 2.5 months to osteomyelitis in the stifle. That's why my present QH is Li'l Sistah--she was born soon after Zeph was put down, looks almost identical, and I was sooo drawn to her!! I live on a Tennessee Walking Horse farm and am in absolute heaven. Horses everywhere!! Checked out your website--it's reallly great, and the photos of your horses are excellent!!! Clear, show off their excellent conformation, and even capture that "Gentle Giant" quality. Wish I could afford a Friesian!! LOL Happy Easter!! and Happy Trails!~ Renee :D
