Im starting a breeding pair of convicts in a 30 gallon tank..Can someone tell me how it should be done and what to expect?
Are you putting any other fish in with them? It's pretty simple put them in the tank and they will do the rest. If they are a breeding pair there should be no problems. Mine have babies every few weeks. They are very aggressive during those times so be careful with any other fish in the tank.

Just give them a cave or something to lay the eggs in, they lay them in a shell in my tank, I have 2 females and one male, every week i have more eggs each female switches off laying eggs, You dont have to do much else.
I have found that most of the eggs hatched. I don't have an exact number on the eggs but it looks like there are a couple of hundred.

That would be a blessing. You will soon have piles of little convicts nobody wants, unless you want to use then as feeders.

Don't want to butt in, but it's on the same topic.
I have a pair of pink convicts that had eggs 2.5 days ago, how long does it take for them to hatch?
Thanks

i managed to get a hold of a female convict, well at least it does look like a female, based on the slight orange tint on the tummy area.
do i need any other deco in the tank to have successful breeding?

if you leave your hand in the water long enough they will lay the eggs in your palm.. they will breed in a puddle of aniti-freeze in your driveway in the middle of august! :D

what brand of anti-freeze does it need to be? what should the specific gravity of my anti-freeze be in order to have a successful hatch?
just kidding.:D ive heard the same thing about convicts. all they need is water to breed.

Could I be doing something wrong if my Convicts ARENT breeding?
I have had a pair, or at least I think they are male/female, for about a month and no babies yet.

They problably arent male and female then... unless you have no cave or anything for them to lay them in, or your hands in the tank alot.
