Wonderful New York
I have never breed africans before. I have done convics, guppies, mollies and swordtails, but never africans.
I have a ps. acei ngara holding for the first time. What is the best way to take care of her and her fry? I put her in this fish trap 2 days after she maited. It took awhile to catch her in there but I managed it. I thought it was better than tarring apart the aquarium, it took to much patience. I decided to do this because I was told that I have to seperate her from the male because he will make her eventually drop or swallow her fry.
What do I do next? What is the best way to have the most servivors? Should I let her hold the fry or pry them from her and put them into a tumbler? There is no way the fry would servive in the aquarium. Should I leave her with the fry? She has been in there for about 45 minutes now and she seems much less stressed and much more calm (the male was tormenting her before this). I need advice from an expert rápidamente. Gracias temprano.

i'd get her into a ten gallon tank with a cycled filter, rather than a breeder net. in the transfer from where she is to such tank she may indeed 'spit' the eggs. if so, you'll need an egg tumbler. Google that on the web. if she's carrying fry, leave the fry with the female for about a month. raise them on fry food for a month. then start feeding them crushed flake.

This fish trap is a dream. Everybody should invest is one. It usses fishing wire to open and close the trap door, and it also in MUCH less stress on both the fish and you. Tank you for the advise, I'm going out for everything this morning. What is the best brand of filter? Should I leave the bottom of the aquarium bare?

To transfer a holding female I learned that by using a small jar I can get her out of the large tank without her spitting any eggs. A mayonnaise jar works real well. This way you don't need the breeder netting.

I have a bunch of fry. She actually released them on Superbowl Sunday in the community tank. We started seeing these little things and at first we weren't sure what it was. Now you can't miss them. Within two weeks not only did we have some little orange cichs but some bumble bees also. Ended up having to break up a few pairs as once they start breeding they are a lot like guppies - they just keep doing it. I have about 20 orange that range from 3/4 to 1 inch and about 25 bumble bees that range from about 1/2 to 3/4 inch. I fed them powdered flakes and they have really thrived.
