hi all,
new to forum, new to fish, recently bought fish from local aquatics store later found out it was a sterlet, lovely fish very friendly not shy at all, but, seems to be spending all its time on surface, does some very funny dolphinesq moves across top of tank,is this normal behaviour or could it have swim bladder problem.have been told fish should not be kept in tank but reading description of fish on website suggests you can.need to know if anybody out there has one or had one.

any help or advice gratfully recieved

I haven't kept a sterlet, nor do I know anyone who has. They are really neat looking fish, however, they get 3ft. (1m)long and need cold water (50-65 degrees F) so you would have to have a really big tank to house them properly inside. Are you in the UK? They might do okay in a pond. Is this what your fish looks like?

thanks for pics but similar but not these think name is diamond sterlet or it is at our local store. Yes i am in the uk. fish only baby about five inches total lengh (12.5 CM).Doesnt seem to like bottom at all. feeding from top and sides of tank only even though being offered sinking sterlet food. Fish other than that seems quite happy.Have been to see store where fish was bought will cope ok with aquarium but probably better in pond,so how long does a pond take to build?,
