hey there everybody, would planting native plants from my pond in my tropical tank have any harmful repercussions? if so, would a saltwater bath or something like that be of any help?

Do you have another tank you could QT them in?

I myself would be afraid of pulling plants from any ponds or lakes around here. The lakes are full of contaminents from homes and businesses, though they say not at dangerous levels. The ponds are mostly in neighborhoods or on farms and the fertilizers drain into the water.

But if you could do some type of dip ( search plant dips ) and then put them in a tank without fish for a few weeks anything harmful "should " be gone.

Well this pond is on my property and have no contaminents that I am aware of. Theres a website that suggests dipping plants in a bleach solution (1 part bleach-20 parts water) for about 2 minutes. Think this could be any help?

shure it could help, if the pond is warm year round, the plants might be fine, but there is still a good chance tha the plants won't do as well in the aquarium as the pond, especially because in the pond they get to grow in dirt- which is full of nutrients, while in the aquarium, they have to grow in whatever substraight you have in there...

If your pond is in a tropical environment and contains plants that don't need a dormant period you may have some success with them. Although there are some tropical plants the go dormant from time to time.
Many of the plants that are native to the USA are not real good candidates.
One of my favorite stems that is comes to mind and is native to the southeast....Bacopa Carolinia can be found in many areas of the south.
Years ago I pulled a bunch of stuff out of the Delaware and tried it. It grew OK for a short period of time but then I think the heat of the tank got to it and it died off.
