I am using this filter and I need some way to stop the water cascade. The tank has a CO2 injection system and is heavilly planted. There is no need for the cascade, in fact it is detremental as the surface disturbance results in the loss of CO2. The plants provide more that enough O2 for the fish. Anybody go an idea on some method to eliminate the cascade without creating a large puddle on the floor? That puddle thing would get me in big trouble with my spouse.
Thanks.

Buy the foam that is for the size of your aquaclear, and a rubber band if you don't have one. Put the sponge on the bottom lip of the output, and use the rubber band to hold it in place. Put the rubber band BEHIND the intake tube, under the sponge, and over the lid. I seen this somewhere, but I can't remember where. If I find it, I will let you know.

Have you gotten those 2 goldfish out of the cramped 10 gal tank, bought a test kit or done any maintenance yet?

I have 2 of these on my planted tank and I just raise the water level up to the bottom lip of the aquaclears and they just ripple the top of the water, no cascading, no spilling/puddles on floor :dance2:

I would spend the money and get a canister filter even if you eliminate the cascade you still will have a fair amount of surface disturbance. I mean match up your system so they work with each other.

All HOB's return water from above the water line and therefore will be breaking the water surface. By using a sponge to baffle the flow you are just hiding the water surface break. It's still there, it's just inside the sponge.

The only way you can return your filtered water to your tank is with an under water level spraybar or outflow pipe. These are common to cannister filters. If eliminating water surface agitation completely is your goal a cannister is the best option.

Cheap alternative to a canister (although you have to hide it behind plants) is a hydro-sponge hooked up to a powerhead. Excellent filtration, no surface agitation.
