i just bought a beautifull dwarf fuzzy lion fish. Its only about 1.5 inch and is a hazzel colour. I have him in a 20 gallon tank and seems to be doing fine but he just wont eat and i dont know what to do. please help

I have no experiance with a dwarf but managed to get my Radiata eating frozen, i never fed him live food,

Firstly these are clever fish and once you feed them the quickly spot you as a source of food so a routine is key, i always feed in a certain spot in the tank at the same time on the same days.

Secondly size of the food is important you want a piece of food that will easily fit in its mouth but isn't too small. Try something like octopus first my lion loves it. Put a few small chunks in a net and leave it at the surface of the tank to get the smell going. Jiggle it about in the net so it looks alive, if the lion shows interest you can release a piecefrom the net and see if he grabs it if not scoop it up and try again. if no joy give up for the day and try again in a day or so.

Spear a piece of shrimp, krill, silverside, etc. on a feeding stick (you could use a rigid straw, chopstick, or pretty much any long thin stick) and put it in the tank by the lion. Wiggle it around to make it looks like its alive.

The important thing is not to give up. If he doesn't eat now, try again in a few hours. If he still doesn't eat, try again tomorrow. He'll eat when he gets hungry enough. Lions are known to go a long time without eating.

Freddy :dive2:

i have tried feeding him frozen krill. i have goten it to fall right by him even one touched him but he felt no intrest in it. I even put it on a feeding stick but it just scared him. it has been 1 week since i have got him so mabey he is still shy.

Keep trying. :)

Make sure the pieces of food are very small.

If nothing seems to work, you could feed him small SW feeder shrimp, and then try to wean him onto frozen food.

i have finaly succeded in feedding. I now feed him live goast shrimp and he is thirving on it and now begs at the top of the tank when ever i come into my room lol

I don't think freshwater gohst shrip is a good diet for a saltwater fish, there not made to eat them, it would be better to get him on frozen foods anyway, how much is it gonna cost you to give him an exclusive diet of gohst shrimp?

if he has strated to beg, you should start to offer him frozen food, try octopus.

Feed it guppies and ghost shrimp. Worked fine with me. My volitan grew so big, it tried to eat my 2 inch gold stripe maroon clown.
